JOHNNIE JOHNSON BLUES AND JAZZ FESTIVAL FAIRMONT WV (February 14, 2011) - The Johnnie Johnson Blues and Jazz Festival celebrates its Tenth Anniversary and a new home. Heston Farms in Pleasant Valley will serve as the new location for the festival held each July in honor of Marion County Native and Father of Rock and Roll Johnnie Johnson. “The Johnnie Johnson Festival celebrates the legacy of one of America’s musical icons and the many styles that made him who he was musically,” said Bill Stalnaker President and Founder of the festival. “Johnnie was always excited about the festival and felt that this was one way he could give back to his hometown,” said Stalnaker. Frances Johnson, Johnson’s widow said, “Johnnie was so proud of this festival and he would be so excited about the new location, it’s really beautiful.” Returning this year will be Paul Geremia, Daryl Davis, and Roddy Barnes more acts will be announced in the coming weeks. “It’s hard to believe its been ten years since the first festival, this is a tribute to Johnnie, but it’s also a tribute to the dedication and persistence of Bill Stalnaker, I hope Fairmont and West Virginia realizes what they have in this young man,” said Johnson.
