Fourth Annual Mad Hatter's Tea At The Woman's Club Of Fairmont (12:30 - noon - 2:30 pm)
The GFWC Woman's Club of Fairmont will host its Fourth Annual Mad Hatter's Tea on Sunday, April 15, 2012 at their historic clubhouse located at 300 First Street, Fairmont, West Virginia. Due to demand, this year's event will again feature two sittings...the first from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM and the second from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM.
The tea is for "children of all ages"...attendance in the past ranged from 18 months to 92 years young.
In addition to hats and wraps try-on opportunities, there will be several other activities to enjoy as well as delicious "kid friendly" refreshments. One of those activities is an Alice in Wonderland video and books to view courtesy of the Marion County Library Fairmont Branch .
Fancy hats, funny hats, plain hats or no hats are all okay as hats are optional. There will be plenty of hats at the clubhouse for guests to try on and wear during the tea. Attendees are encouraged to bring cameras as there will be lots of photo opportunities at the Mad Hatter's Tea.
Cost of the tickets is $5,00 for those ages 2 - 12; over 12 and adults $10.00, with those under 2 admitted free.

Annual Spring Bird Walks At Pricketts Fort State Park (8:00 am - 11:00 am)
Join DNR Biologists for 2012 Annual Spring Bird Walks at Pricketts Fort State Park
In an annual celebration of spring, DNR biologists Jim Evans and Susan Olcott will be conducting free Saturday morning bird walks on April 21, 28, and May 5 from 8 -10 am at Pricketts Fort State Park. The group will depart from the Visitor Center parking lot. Migrating songbirds are the primary attraction, but participants will also likely see shorebirds, waterfowl and hawks. Sturdy walking shoes are recommended. Bring binoculars is you have them, but a few will be available. This event is free and open to the public. On Sat. April 21 The WV Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum Inc. (The Sagebrush Round-Up) will be having a very special show. We will be having our 2011 induction ceremony for inductees into the WV Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum Inc. This is the first such ceremony since we were formed in 1988...
This years inductees are:
Paul Hayhurst, Bud VanGilder, Floyd Priest, Granny Blosser, Pee Wee Austin, Kathryn Kusner, Paul Crane, Fred Ramsey, and Davey Gorman
These people have built, performed and promoted Country Music in West Virginia.
The schedule for the event is:

In April 1863 Confederate forces invaded Fairmont, Virginia (now West Virginia) in
an attempt to gain control of the strategic B&O Railroad and capture Francis
Pierpont, Governor of the Re-Organized Virginia. The park will commemorate this
event through various re-enactments and demonstrations, and hands-on activities
for children and families. Regular park admission applies.

Dr. Rice is a Lecturer at WVU Department of History. She is the Assistant Editor of West Virginia History: A Journal of Regional Studies and a Member of the Governor’s West Virginia Sesquicentennial of the American Civil War Commission. Dr. Rice has done extensive research on Women and Blacks in Appalachia, the Border States, and the Upper South. Her lecture is free and open to the public.

Fairmont Chamber Music Society presents Merling Trio
The Merling Trio will conclude our thirtieth season. The violin, cello and piano trio is recognized as one of today's premier ensembles. A truly international trio, it brings together musicians from Polish, Japanese and Dutch backgrounds. They have played throughout the US, Canada and Europe, they made their Carnegie Hall debut in 1993 and were named finalist for the Naumberg Foundation Chamber Music Award in 1994. They are in residence at the School of Music at Western Michigan University.
